Title: Season 9 OOC
Post by: Geekyfanboy on February 14, 2009, 08:34:47 PM
Well I have started Season Nine.. sorry about the delay.

As you can see it's been three weeks since the end of Season 8. We will be having a promotion ceremony in the Afterburner if you would like to join us there you can make your way there in your first post. Also here is some info on Starbase 416 and the surrounding area.

------

Starbase 416 is a Starfleet starbase not far from the Ogus system and It contains an advanced medical facility.

--------

The Ogus system is a Federation star system. There are at least two planets in the system.

    * Ogus (primary)
          o Ogus I
          o Ogus II

-------

Ogus II is the second planet in the Ogus star system. There are several recreational areas on the planet, including laser duel games located in arcades. The planet is also forested. One native plant is called a cove palm. This palm produces a fruit inhabited by deadly parasites, and is extremely toxic to Humans.

Great job everyone. What a great start to Season 9. :)

Just a reminder, please spell check and try hard to use proper punctuation in your post. Typos are sometimes difficult to avoid, but if you use Word or some other text editor to compose your addition, before you post it to the forum, it helps a lot.  Read your work aloud a few times before you add them to make sure it is easily spoken.  People will be recording them for Ready Room next weekend and it's hard to read additions that are laden with mistakes.

As always, if you need help, you have questions or you want someone to look at what you've written before you post it... Kenny and I are here to render aid. ;)

I second that. Several nice collaborations have kept the story telling tight. Excellent start.  Maybe we all should sign up to write the next Trek television show. ;)

Request:

If anybody would like to do a collaborative post with me this week please PM.

I could do with some tips on character interaction too when referencing other characters in a solo post.

Remember this is my first time so be gentle!  ;D

Thats a great Idea and is manditory for all crew and officers when reporting for duty on a new ship, That should work just fine and will be a great starting point for your character.

Just been reading the Intrepid II thread in the main story forum. It's a bit inconsistent in places but it looks like we might have forward facing pulse phaser cannon.

They should be fun to use one day (if we haven't done it already - still reading up on old seasons).

If you haven't looked it over, it's well worth a read as there's quite a staggering amount of detail on all sorts of systems and departments.

I'm currently writing a post about Galdar helping with a bit of shuttle maintenance on the ship but didn't have a clue how many shuttles she had. That thread lays it all out in nice detail.

Have a read!

As far as inconsistencies goes it was largely in the phaser references (which is what I was concentrating on at the time). At the front were type XIIs and pulse cannons. In re middle I only found the type XIIs and toward the end were type Xs.

It's not major but it happened to be in the bits I was looking at. Re rest is probably perfect!

I'm referring it to Chris in a PM,  because he posted that information. I am not a trekno-knower... so all I gleaned from your post was "something-something phaser". ;)  JK

But seriously, thanks for pointing it out, Mike. :)

It was a typo on my part. The text is correct, but the armament in reply 9 is off.

This:
ARMAMENT
11 Type-X phasers, 2 forward photon torpedo launchers, 2 aft torpedo launchers

Should be this:
ARMAMENT
13 Type-XII phasers, 2 Forward mounted Pulse Phaser Cannons, 2 forward photon torpedo launchers, 2 aft torpedo launchers
Payload: 50 Quantum Torpedoes, 50 Photon Torpedoes

yes, the impulse power and non warp core power is from zero point energy conversion. It's actually pretty cool science behind it and two point energy generation. I wouldn't be surprized if we actually master it one day. I personally see it as kind of tapping into and converting dark energy to usable power and from what science dictates, dark energy makes up 90% of the universe.

She transported aboard and yeah, no one has noticed yet. Her species a sneaky one. Someone might have noticed something, but it wouldn't match up to any known transporter signals.

If you watch the "Unforgettable" episode of Voyager, it would give you insights to what might or might not be a offshoot of her species.

LOL! Which is why he said family. He's not going to hide this his wife is there, but he also can't let anyone know that she's there. By saying he's visiting family, it doesn't put his wife on the spot or get him into more trouble. If Aeric has to explain, he'll try to do that without revealing too much.

FYI,

To all my fellow RPG'ers I want to apologize for the lack of participation so far for season nine. Real life has gotten it the way and unfortunately the RPG and RR are going to take the hit. Currently Quinn and Took are starting their shore leave. If you need to speak with Quinn or Took please PM me and we will figure something out. I may post here or there but for the rest of the month of March you won't see much of Quinn or Took. Again I'm very sorry about this but some things are out of my control.

Thanks,
Kenny

It will be fascinating to see how all of these stories play out.

I'm just planning Galdar's future and he has a pretty active time coming up but I think it's going to be a few more regular shorter posts at the minute - that may make the readings easier for all you Ferengi impersonators though :D.

Up-front apologies to those who dislike long posts as I've just posted what I think must be the 'mother of all posts', at least for this season. If it helps, read it as a series of smaller posts and come back to it later if you don't have time to finish in one go :)

We've tied lots of different story threads into this one piece - it's a majestic, multi-authored collaberative work.

Good luck to the Ready Roomers with this one! Perhaps split it up for the reading too?

Yes, that was the original plan when I started. Once we interleaved the sickbay scenes with shuttle bay story, however, trying to manage it between two or three of us over multiple days became somewhat complex in the planning.

Also, we wanted to maintain the effect that the 'whole' has together, without interveining posts, so took the decision to do it this way.

It will definately be an uncommon occurrence.

That could be fun.

I'm on new ground here. Up to now I've kept Galdar on his own on the station so I've been able to do what I want with him. For the first time now, he's under someone elses control and I don't know how to react. To a degree, I'm not sure I like it. :)

How about I make him captain and then he can order James to stand down. Good plan? ;)

More seriously, is James trying to be difficult or does he normally arrest people who've just asked to be rescued from decompressing shuttle bays without permission?

It wasn't the rescuing, it was the Section 31 person giving orders to the crew and them following those orders. For all he knows, it is a ruse designed to allow Section 31 access to the ship that he is sworn to protect. It's like a wanted man making an arrest then telling the beat cops what to do.

OK, that makes sense. I've just watched the back end of DS9 with all the Sloan episodes so the reaction works in that context.

I've just realised - Galdar hasn't got a clue who Theran is other than Joseph's brother. He must be really confused!

Yeah section 31 is an illegal organization and counter to the laws and ideas that the members of Star Fleet are supposed to uphold. As my daughter would put it: "They're the bad guys and we don't like the bad guys."

That's good Mike, you have to put yourself into Galdars mind. Chris is right. James is going to be annoyed because he desperately wants his ship running smoothly (as you would) and look whats happened, a total stranger who works for section 31 comes along and is totally ignorant to proper authority and is a potential danger to the ship. Joint posts are designed to make complicated stories easier. I've happily left Joseph D'callan in Jens, Chris's and Erics hands when it comes to joint posts because they will allways check with you before posting (you always end up changing a bit of dialogue but that's natural) so you have to put a bit of trust in allowing Galdar to be played with.

I'm sure I'll get used to it :)

As I say, I deliberately put Galdar on the station initially to gat used to writing like this and to give me a chance to get to know the character a bit before getting sucked into the story.

Hopefully, it's helped...we'll see.

I just wanted to say that I've pretty much finished my planned introduction of Galdar. Just about everything I've done so far was leading up to the station shuttle bay scene so from now on I'm happy to play it by ear.

I had considered a whole shuttle persuit sequence but have ditched the idea for the moment as I didn't know where to take it. (Aeric's scuppered that idea anyway!)

I'm not saying I'm about to stop, just that I'm not sure where the story will take me next.

On the other side, I'm enjoying the other three ongong major threads. Lots of good co-operative writing which does make the story very readable. I see this is a skill I'll need to learn.

Well done Feathers!  I think that, not knowing what comes next, is what's fun about writing in the RPG... We usually have an outline but that is only used to point everyone in the same general direction. How we drive to that destination may take us off roading or on a high speed chase. :) FYI, we're working on an outline for the next season now. Hold on to your hats!  :eekout

I have a general idea of what will happen with my characters, but when I work with other writers more possibilities are tossed into the mix and fresh ideas abound. The great idea I thought I had, gets a new twist or a high shine due to the great dialog/details created when I work with someone else. Teaming up with these writers is something that has become more of a second nature because we know each others' strengths and style and have meshed together like a writing team for a TV show. At least that's the way I look at it. :)

And...I think you have done an excellent job in your collaborations, and you already have a skill. :)

I really have a blast writing for Darius, and the collaborative atmosphere of this game is SO enjoyable.  I just had this intense mental image of Shane and Galdar walking along in utter silence for most of the trip, kind of like those scenes with two people in an elevator, where neither talks, but you know SOMETHING is coming if one of them will ever open their mouth. Feathers, dude...  :cheers

I should really be less shy about joint posting. ^^;;

A pleasure.

When I was writing for this scene, I had the image of a tall human striding along in silence (which seems to fit Shane from what I remember of his character) with this little orange man almost scampering along beside him trying to keep up and desperately trying to rhink of a way to get him to say something. It's a funny image.

The one thing I wasn't sure of was whether Darius would give in and speak or not. :)

I have this insane urge to apologize to everyone for completely hijacking the story with the shuttle bay scenes. It seems to have had ramifications far beyond those that I'd planned.

It started off as a Galdar only story but then I wrote Joseph D'Callan into it for a bit of colour. It was simply intended as an unorthodox way for Galdar to come aboard. He'd have been with the security chief and thus it would have all been OK. Only...then I changed my plans and delayed posting it all for a bit by which time Joseph was in sickbay so Meds substituted Theran...and we are where we are.

I certainly didn't intend to get Joseph arrested, Aeric in a flap or Section 31 on the ship. Nor did I plan on cutting across everyone's character development.

I'm loving reading the results of it all though :D

Feathers that is what is great about not having a strict outline.. we let our writers run free and they come up with this wonderful story. And what is great about this team of writers is their ability to shift and follow a story which ever way it goes.

So thank you for being a major player in this season and shifting the story in a direction I never expected.

Hey, this is fun and not your fault. Openings were created to change the direction of the story and the writers took advantage of it. That's the magic of this RPG thing from season to season. Outlines are fun, but when something comes up that might provide something fun, you can shift course without much worry.

I think duty in the brig could be interesting at this point. Try for that rather than occupying a cell!

Galdar's a bit worried that he'll be in the brig soon. Should have kept the safe starbase job :(

Aeric doesn't mind sitting in a cell. It's the honor system for him. He's there because he didn't tell the ship to turn off the forcefield. It's easier to sit in jail when you've already planned an escape if necessary.

Simply put, having closed Galdar's story down I wanted to put something in place for Andrews as well and wanted to jump before the guillotine came down.

Somewhere in the world, these two posts have appeared on different days so for today, just assume that I live there!

Heads up. Season 9 is ending tomorrow. We will begin discussing Season 10 very soon. There will be a three week break between seasons.

I finish up my classes for the summer in three weeks. Maybe I can actually keep up next season, more then not likely. Sorry I've been so quiet in the story so far. Excited for when I get back from extreme busynessland.

Indeed as I said in the shoutbox. Best season yet. Each one gets noticeably better then the last. Can't wait for a Ready Room season 9 wrap up.

Never underestimate creative moxy where BEER is concerned.

...

....

....

Oh dear, I've just had me an idea.

Sometime, at some point, D'Callan, Darius, Dunn (anyone else see the pattern?), and one or two others need have a beer tasting that ends with them slew-walking down a corridor singing. It'd bee like "Jaws" only less teeth.

Hey All...

Before we wrap up Season 9 I'm looking for a title to that season...

If you can think of a good one please post it here.. Jen and I will pick the one we feel best fits the season...

thanks,
Kenny

Family Ties

Given the Aeric/Oona story, the mirror Sevryll and children story, the death of David Locke, the whole D'Callan clan getting involved and Galdar...OK, forget him. Anyway, it seems appropriate.

Blood is thicker than water

The ties that bind

Through thick and thin

Restored

Solidified

Forged in the Fire

A funny thing happened on the way to the space station :)

Stronger

A crew of character

Respite

Tried and True

Just some ideas.  :)

How bout, "...But Family? That's in the Stars."

A bit long, I know. But it IS a line from TNG.

I'd go from Family Ties to Broken Ties since most of the family stories ended...badly.
