CW Fast Tracks "The Flash" TV Series

CW Fast Tracks "The Flash" TV Series

The CW is reportedly fast tracking a series based on the DC Comics hit "The Flash".

The series, which comes from "Arrow" creatures Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg, is expected to exist in the same universe as that show.

The character is expected to appear in a late second season episode of "Arrow" in the first half of next year before starring in his own pilot probably in time for Fall 2014.

Director David Nutter and writer/DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns are also involved in the project which would mark the second time the character has fronted his own series.

The first was the 1990 TV series starring John Wesley Shipp as Barry Allen, though it's not sure if the Barry Allen version of the Flash will be the character that leads this potential series. Kyle Gallner played a version of The Flash in the young Superman series "Smallville".

Great! I used to love the 90's series and they've done a pretty good job in modern times with the DC shows.  :-)

The funny thing is, DC has really done more on TV than Marvel in recent times.  Where Marvel has been owning the movie space.  The Flash is a great idea for a TV series - again.  Pretty simple character and powers to show too.  Maybe Arrow and he will meet up for a cross-over set of shows.  That would be cool!

A little more on this....

The CW surprised many this morning when the announcement came that they're looking to start another DC Comic TV series, starring The Flash. Since then we've learned that the character will be introduced in the upcoming season of Arrow and the network is still mulling over the spin-off potential of the character.

We also know that Arrow writers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns are writing a script for the pilot and that David Nutter, director of the Arrow pilot, could direct The Flash pilot.

A few more updates have come along since then (via Deadline) including word that the character is set to appear in the 8th or 9th episode in the upcoming season of Arrow, and casting is expected to begin this week.

"Barry Allen's story always has been a favorite of mine," Berlanti said, "as well as of Andrew Kreisberg and Geoff Johns. We wanted everyone to know about the show as that process commenced. We think it fits well both in terms of Arrow and as a stand-alone series."

Who do you want to see play The Flash? Sound off below!

I think actor Matt Lanter (voiced Anakin on the Clone Wars) would make a great Flash/Barry.

Just happy that DC FINALLY is taking the time to build up their characters on screen. I've always been more of a DC guy (other than XMEN) than Marvel, and as much as I love Supes and Bats, they have so many iconic characters to exploit and a deep, deep universe to draw from. Smallville was best when they acknowledged the bigger universe, and I think it would be smart for these properties to somehow be tied to the big screen adventures, even tangentially.
