'Everwood' Creator Summons 'Green Lantern'
Greg Berlanti will co-write and direct the superhero adaptation

Greg BerlantiCurrently producing a daunting percentage of ABC's line-up, Greg Berlanti will co-write and direct an adaptation of the DC Comic' hero "Green Lantern."

According to the industry trade papers, the project is set up at Warner Bros. and Berlanti will pen the script along with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green.

The first incarnation of the ring-powered Green Lantern was engineer Alan Scott, whose DC run began back in 1940. The character's most famous incarnation, though, was test pilot Hal Jordan, who first appeared in 1959. The Jordan character is expected to be the basis for Berlanti's feature plans.

The Green Lantern character is part of the Green Lantern Corps., an intergalactic police force under the auspices of the Guardians of the Universe. The guy has a lot of nifty powers and a cool ring, but he hates yellow.

Don't we all.

The character is also part of the Justice League.

Green Lantern isn't to be confused with Green Hornet (currently being adapted for the big screen by Seth Rogen) or Green Arrow (part of a feature with David Goyer attached).

The only feature directing credit for Berlanti is 2000's "The Broken Hearts Club." On the small screen, he was a creator on "Everwood" and "Jack & Bobby." He's currently executive producing "Brothers & Sisters" and "Dirty Sexy Money" for ABC with "Eli Stone" joining the network at midseason.

The Black Fleet dvd had a cool sneak peak at the creation of the animated movie.  Looks like it will kick butt!  The Green Lantern books are one of the few DC titles I still enjoy, probably because of the sci-fi / space opera angle.  A live action TV show sounds like great news!
