SO EXCITED!!!

Oh wow, this is exciting! It's Clone Wars but in the time frame that we grew up with! With Filoni still at the helm I can only hope we'll get the same quality of storytelling and animation we were getting at the end of Clone Wars. Also seems like they're using a lot of the McQuarrie concepts for design. Wonderful news.
OMG!!! So excited.
Cool looking forward to it :)
I am excited because it will be showing on Disney XD, that channel I get in HD. The Channel that was showing The Clone Wars was not, thus making me have to wait for the Blu-Rays to watch the episodes. Sounds exciting, cool to see everyone excited. I wish I had a cool office like that, can't have one like that at work, but now I am thinking I should do something like that for my Home Office.
I just hope it's not aimed at too young an audience like some of the Marvel series lately.

Davie Filoni talking about the new series...gonna be McQuarrie all over this sucka!!
This will make my son's day!
Who am I kidding... and mine!
Details Revealed About Star Wars Rebels
Source: Bleeding Cool
June 20, 2013
A month ago to the day, Lucasfilm officially announced the birth of a new animated "Star Wars" series. Titled Star Wars Rebels, this new series will be set between Episodes III and IV and will feature all new characters. Now, Bleeding Cool has learned a few more details about the upcoming series.
Like the casting breakdown for the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII, "Rebels'" primary characters will all be teenagers. The reason behind this is to give the show a skew toward younger audience members. In addition, the site says that Mark Hamill will provide a guest voice for the show in some capacity.
Star Wars Rebels takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
Star Wars Rebels will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Fans attending Star Wars Celebration Europe will be the first to get an exclusive look at the new series. Casting will be announced at a later date.

So, any ideas on who the main characters will be? You'd think Leah would be one since she was deep into the Rebellion at the start of Episode 4. Maybe Wedge and/or Biggs? Or will the characters be all new? Of course there won't be any Jedi's in this series at all, since Obi Wan and Yoda are deep in hiding at this point.
More info...
"Star Wars Rebels" Executive Producer Dave Filoni pulled back the curtain on Lucasfilm's upcoming animated series for Star Wars Celebration Europe attendees today, discussing the huge influence of original "Star Wars" concept artist Ralph McQuarrie on the look and feel of the show, and revealing the series' unique logo and select designs.
Filoni talked at length about the use of McQuarrie art as a springboard for the series, showcasing many works from the original trilogy, including landscapes and characters, and detailing how they inform the visual identity of "Star Wars Rebels."
For "Star Wars Rebels," fans were given their first look at the Ghost (see below), which will be the main character's ship and play a big part in the series, as well as a computer rendering of a very McQuarrie-esque Stormtrooper, the interior of a Star Destroyer, and more. The show's logo, a minimalist yet powerful design, is notable for its orange and black color scheme, which recalls the flight suit colors of Rebel pilots in the original Star Wars trilogy.
While unable to attend in person, Executive Producers Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman shared their excitement for the series in a video message recorded specifically for Celebration attendees.
The series is set between the events of Episode III and IV -- an era spanning almost two decades never-before explored on-screen. It takes place in a time where the Empire is securing its grip on the galaxy and hunting down the last of the Jedi Knights as a fledgling rebellion against the Empire is taking shape.
"Star Wars Rebels" will be produced by Lucasfilm Animation, featuring many of the key talents that made "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." It is scheduled to premiere in fall 2014 as a one-hour special telecast on Disney Channel, and will be followed by a series on Disney XD channels around the world.

Looking do forward to this. I wonder if those ships in that pic are the Dreadnaughts described in the Heir of the Empire trilogy? Seems like EU stuff seems to creep into the animated Star Wars.
I just ordered the t-shirt!
This sounds like it is going to be great, and I like that is is going to be in that 20 year span which should be interesting. I think what makes me the most excited about it, is that it is on Disney XD, which is a Channel I get in HD. Clone Wars was on a different channel here in Canada, which was is SD, thus making me wait for the Blu-Rays to watch.
Right now I only get Disney XD is SD with DISH.
It was SD on Comcast, but now that I have DirecTV it's in HD. Ready for some more great stuff from Filoni and crew.
This is over a year away still so I wouldn't worry about the channel thing yet. I have Comcast and have Disney XD in HD. Watching the new Avengers series on the channel.

Especially considering Disney can reach into Network as well through ABC, they are going to want to deliver on this in as broad a range as possible considering the resources they can bring to bear.
Shortest, least revealing teaser of all time.

I like it.

Not really. We would need to see some characters to really get a feel for that. I know it's a year off still and I'm looking forward to this quite a bit but this really didn't do much for me.
I can get a good feel for what it's going to look like from this, characters included. It's apre muted tone palette then CW, characters will be likely more organic, less angular. Fitting and more OT actually.
Wow - you got all that from that 16 seconds?! Wild!

That and all the pre-production art which has been released. Try and keep up. ;)

The Inquisitor!
The next great villain from a galaxy far, far away is here. Fans attending Lucasfilm's Star Wars Rebels panel today at New York Comic Con got the world's first look at the Inquisitor, a black-clad, intimidating figure who will play a prominent role in the upcoming animated series. In a special video (available below) screened at the end of the panel, Star Wars Rebels executive producer Dave Filoni officially revealed the character, showing a sculpted maquette, design sketches, and disclosing that the Inquisitor is "tasked by Darth Vader to hunt down the remaining Jedi Knights."

I can't wait! Getting very excited. Dave Filoni was interviewed on this weeks Rebel Force Radio as well. Couldn't reveal much but just having him in charge is awesome.
From looking at the picture, looks like he draws a bit of inspiration from the Sith Inquisitors from the Old Republic time frame.
Interesting looking character. And a smart move: I'm guessing we'll get some Vader, but mostly this guy to prevent Vader from being overexposed. I wonder if Disney is setting up this character to somehow play a role in the new movies?
Empire recruitment poster.

There's a really cool villain of this era...Darth Vader. I am hoping to see what he was up to in this era, see him in action more.
I think creatively they should give the Anakin/Vader story a break.

Only because of the prequels. In my mind years ago, this era of Vader becoming the terror of the galaxy was what I always wanted to see. Hunting down Jedis like Ben told Luke in Ep4. Guess he's just middle management now.. ;)
I completely agree Chris. I think the only reason they are avoiding it for this series is perhaps Disney at some point will make SW: Episode 3.5. I sure hope they do! :)
Looks like we will be getting shorts this summer to lead into the new series this fall.

Or perhaps explore that in a live action series. I agree I want to see that story, but I think their instinct to move away from the core characters for Rebels is correct and I welcome it.

Cool stuff, going to enjoy the build up to this. That is the nice thing about the internet, is they can really promote things like they never could in the past. I liked the little behind the scenes segments on the characters as well they have put out so far. Something about putting the Star Wars music on top of something that really pulls me into the world.
Oh wow, this looks so good.

Cool! A chance to start something at the beginning.
I'm in the middle of a marathon right now. Since I never watched the Clone Wars, and they recently added the whole series to Netflix, I watched the three original movies, then Eps 1 & 2, and now I am around episode 11 of season 1 of the Clone Wars animated series. Enjoying it so far, I give myself about a 50% chance of making it through the whole series. I'm gonna try to watch all four seasons before this new show starts, then finish it off with Revenge of the Sith before watching Rebels.
Hah! I was trying to catch up on Dr WHo - but gave that up!
I've been enjoying Rebels quite a bit. Anyone else watching?
Yes I've seen the first three episodes. It's been fun so far but I doubt I'll keep up with it. Offer me some Darth Vader action and I'd be all in.
Saw the pilot and have the first of the series recorded.
It looks like my son got to programming the DVR for this one before I did :)
I really like the tone and feel of the show. It has a very original trilogy feel to it. They use a lot of the music, designs, ship styles, etc. from the OT too. Enjoying it a lot so far.
Encore showing tonight of the premiere "movie" with some brand new Vader footage! :)

New Vader part was right at the start. Cool, but pretty short.
Is this series placed before New Hope?

Is this series placed before New Hope?
Yes. After Episode 3, before Episode 4.
Really enjoying Rebels so far. The most recent episode with the Inquisitor showing up was great!

Yes, he seems to be a cool enemy so far. Of course, it's Jason Isaacs, and who better to be slimy?
Been a great first season for this series. Finale next week looks to be great!
