Here are your choices. Pick the list you like best. Vote just once.
Hawkeye Meds
Picard = Ben Kingsley (was Ghandi Wink )
Ryker = Ioan Gruffudd (Mr Fantastic in Fantastic 4)
Worf = Michael Clarke Duncan (a real big fella)
La Forge = Donald Faison (Turk in Scrubs)
Crusher = Meryl Streep (oldest actress who i thought would look good in a TNG uniform Wink )
Troi = Minnie Driver (curves)
Data = Jason Lee (i can just see it )
Wesley = Daniel radcliffe ( think he would be great and not as annoying )
----------
Sheppard
Picard - James Marsters
Riker - Skeet Ulrich
Data - Neil Patrick Harris
Geordi - Chiwetel Ejiofor
Worf - Rainbow Sun Francks
Troi - Yvonne Strahovski
Crusher - Gwyneth Paltrow
Wes - Elijah Wood
----------
Just X
Picard: Jason Statham ... An odd choice, but I believe that he could pull off the captain role even if he is just a bit younger than expected.
Beverly Crusher: Gillian Anderson ... I believe that she would make a good counter to Statham.
Worf: Vin Diesel ... The voice and build would lend well to Klingon makeup.
Troi: Liv Tyler because of her look.
Riker: Edward Norton ... has already established onscreen chemistry with Tyler and is a better choice than Affleck for the role.
Geordi Laforge: I went with Rainbow Sun Franks from Stargate Atlantis. I think given the chance he would shine in the role.
Data, I would go with Sheldon from Big Bang Theory
Unfortunately I couldn't cast Wes. There aren't too many child actors that I can see handing the role over to.
----------
Mark Daniels (M-5 on the forum)
Jean-Luc Picard - Gregory Peck
William T. Riker – James Garner
Geordi La Forge – Al Freeman Jr.
Dr. Beverly Crusher – Maureen O'Hara.
Data – Martin Landau
Worf – Yaphet Kotto
Deanna Troi – Jean Simmons
Wesley Crusher – Tim Matheson
----------
Jen
Captain Picard: Ben Kingsley (British Actor—Bald)
Riker: David Boreanaz (tall dark and handsome, expressive eyes)
Data: Jim Parsons (He could pull it off)
Doctor Crusher: Melissa Gilbert (had to have a slightly older actress with red hair)
Geordi: Gary Dourdan (his eyes...)
Worf: Michael Clark Duncan (BIG dude, commanding presence)
Deanna Troi: Zooey Deschanel (petite peppy brunette actress)
----------
Trekkygeek
Captain Picard - Sir Ian McKellan.
Riker - Keifer Sutherland (personal favourite)
Data - James Marsters
Geordie - Will Smith
Worf - Samuel J (Snakes on a Mother*****ing plane) Jackson
Troi - The lovely lovely Teri Hatcher
Crusher - The equally lovely Marcia Cross (Bree Hodge in Desperate Housewives)
Wes - Shia Labeouf
Don't forget to get your votes in!
All inspired ideas but I had to go with Tim's! Any cast with Samuel J, I hate Wes and I hate Shia, and he clearly has a Desperate Houswives fetish! Nice!!!
I had to go with that one, too. Anything to see Teri in a starfleet uniform again.
Plus, Jack Bauer could really get some problems solved with 24th century tech.
those are some great choices. It made me rethink completely my choice for Riker.
It's also interesting to see that several actors made more than one list. Does that mean that we all watch the same things?
Well, If I couldn't vote for my own, I'd have to go for Meds overall, although there were some other suggestions that I preferred over his. But as I said, overall, Meds would get my vote
i'd love to see Big Sam Jackson in a starfleet uniform. Nice choice Tim. And i think you'd be ok voting for your own team. Ha ha.
There is no rule against voting for yourself on this - if that's the group you like best.
I WAS going to vote for Tim... Then I saw who he cast as Geordi. *puke*
NONE of these strike me as being anywhere near good. I'll abstain.
BJ
Thanks BJ.
lol...if you don't have something nice to say...
I think all of the casts have some great choices... I especially like that Jim Parsons from Big Bang Theory was cast as Data in two of them. And I gotta say, between Sam Jackson, Neil Patrick Harris, David Boreanaz, Meryl Streep, and the classic Hollywood stars, it was a really tough call.

That's why I didn't reply. I suppose if there were better ideas out there, then those people with them should have made a submission.
The only thing this contest demonstrated to me is how woefully uninformed I am about current popular actors! I have no clue who some of those people are! I incorrectly interpreted this contest to mean if you recast TNG today with modern talent, I never considered using older or more established names, but now that I see them, I wish I had played.

Same here Bryan, I had to google most of them. Turns out I did know who some of them were, just not by name.
There were no restrictions on who you could choose from. But obviously most people picked from current, available talent. One thing I thought this contest would demonstrate is how hard it is to recast something like this. I like to point that out when people moan & groan about some of the recent remakes and recasting happening. It is a very hard thing to do.
No, it was my fault for not understanding the contest.
Yes I failed to finish my list... :-[
I found it VERY hard to choose people and found myself not wanting them replaced!

Ummm.... Ditto.
I didn't know the names of the actors I added to my list. I just knew the characters they played and what they looked like. I had to find the list of actors on IMDB by looking up the television shows and movies I knew they were in. In my email to Rico, I added photos to help identify them. BTW...I think all the suggestions are
imaginative and fun. And this is after all just a game... we're not actually recasting TNG. ;)
I had to vote for Just X, purely for the Gillian Anderson/Liv Tyler combo!
:love

that is what you think! :)
Ok - figured it was time to reveal my pics for this. A couple made it on other people's lists too. Let me know what you think of my ideas.
Interesting choices Rico. I particularly like your choice of Picard and Data.

Thanks. I think Mitch would be a pretty cool Picard/Captain. I'd love to see him involved in Trek sometime. Same with the others.
I heard an interview with Pileggi in which he described his role as commander if the Deadalus on Atlantis as the nearest he would get to commanding the Enterprise. Seems he had the same idea.
I think it's funny that everyone kind of kept the same age/sex/race for the new characters. Why not a white Geordi? or a Male Dr. Crusher.

I didn't completely. Not for Worf and my ages don't line up either exactly. But, I wasn't going to give you a female Picard! That just won't work in my view.
Those were some really good choices, Rico. I especially like Taye Diggs as Geordi... although, I just really, really like Taye Diggs, so I may be a bit biased.
Jim Parsons is a pretty popular choice for Data. Of course, he practically plays Data on The Big Bang Theory--I'm waiting for that reference on the show. ;)
Yeah, I like Taye a lot too. That series he had a year or two back where he kept reliving the same day was very cool.
JEN IS THE WINNER!!!!
Yeah!!! I'm on a roll! :D
Thanks everyone. :)
Yay Jen!
MAKE IT SO!
Well done Jen!
Well done Jen!
Well done Jen, hand clap being done right now.
Congratulations!
I'm going to have to go back and re-read the castings now to see which one was yours :)
Excellent Jen. Well done. :cheers
Speech.....Speeech Speeech! ;D
Congratulations Jen. Well done.

Speech.....Speeech Speeech! ;D
It's got to be better than Kate Winslet!
Okay, since the Englishmen want a speech...I'll give them one from Elizabeth I.
My heart was never set on any worldly goods. What you bestow on me, I will not hoard it up, but receive it to bestow on you again. Therefore render unto them I beseech you Mr Speaker, such thanks as you imagine my heart yieldeth, but my tongue cannot express.
;D
Give this woman the crown. :-).
....and another handclap ;D
Meds puts the crown on Jen's head— then she curtsies for Dan and Tim as the do the gamma quadrant golf clap. ;)

Bowing to giant insect overlords makes the most sense, really....
If you wear the crown Jen (and i feel honoured to place it on your head) you will not have to bow or courtsie to anyone. Subjects may not shake your hand unless you offer it first, no person can turn their back on you they must step back, nod turn right and then leave your presence. Plus you get to wear a sword and can sentence people to death maybe while doing the hand clap. Not bad aye.
...and if a commoner's shadow touches your shadow then they'll be put to death.
Possibly by ninjas.
Ninja's dressed in tower of london uniforms. And with each kill the body is left with a cream and jam scone and a pot of tea.
Like this meds?
I love when thread go WAY off topic...
How do we go from Re-casting TNG crew to British Ninja's. :biggrin
Patrick Stewart could have made a good British ninja in his younger days?
I am in such a silly mood today it's not even reasonable.
Ha ha joe. Death by tea and scones. Woah be tide any people mess with a ninja armed with rock cakes, a swiss roll and a Blueberry muffin. The Queen has a secret compartment under her crown thats stocked with cookies and shapened flaplacks.
Okay...nix the bowing and courtsie stuff. I've seen Roman Holiday like a million times and Audrey Hepburn just nodded...so that's what I'd do...
Then I'd whip out my nunchucks and do a demonstration to school my subjects in the dangers of crossing a royal ninja. :ninja
/me looks around the thread....sees a lot of silly people and is hopelessly late to the joke.
/me backs out and looks for another thread lol!
King
And Jen. You've already got your royal ninja uniform. Class.
Yes, ma'am, thank you ma'am, three bags full ma'am.
(I clearly haven't got a clue as to the proper etiquette for queening)
