Hi everybody!
As many of you know, I quit my job at the church and have jumped out into a new world of excitement. Part of that is a new podcast that I am starting this Sunday. It's called Take Him With You
(http://www.takehimwithyou.com/images/takehimapplesmaller.jpg)
I launched the website this morning. It has an interactive blog, a listen now area and will eventually offer a weekly newsletter to encourage people. The concept is to bring a spiritual topic out each week, then later during the week have a skype discussion, and all the while talk about it on the blog. During the middle of the week I plan on putting out a short little blurb of encouragement. I know that a lot of people will never set foot in church, so I thought, why not have people in the privacy of their ipod, home or wherever, have the opportunity take something with them. I'm really coming at a very different angle with this. No judging, pointing fingers or putting down people or other religions, just simply communicating my faith and encouraging others. I tell a lot of stories, I play some music, in fact all the music is recorded here in my studio.
Take a look at the site:

The first podcast comes out this Sunday and then every week thereafter. Listen to the promo here http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/promo_feb1st.mp3 (http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/promo_feb1st.mp3)
I started a company called Moyer Multi Media, LLC http://www.takehimwithyou.com/mmm (http://www.takehimwithyou.com/mmm)

which one is the dummy? I had to have been about 5 or 6 here. I liked entertaining even back then!
From the design on that shirt, it must have been 1971.
ring ring ring! Give the man a prize! It was around then!
I love the collar.
I had wallpaper that looked like that shirt! Picked in the 70s and lived with for years afterwards.
I don't want to upset anyone here but I see some famoly resemblance between your younger self and your boys! *ducks and runs for cover from FourLights*
I'm getting some good feedback, if you can, and you like the first two episodes, please leave some feedback on Itunes. That would be much appreciated! I had 170 downloads of the first cast in one week. That is more than I expected.
:)
Thanks Rico for playing the promo on TSF. That was much appreciated!
There's a new episode of Take Him With You out now, it's very fun! Take a listen and let me know what you think please!

I even give a shout out to Jedi Jeff, and play a RICO promo and Knights of the Guild promo from Kenny and Jenny!

Awesome!!!! Love that picture. :D I enjoyed your latest episode. Great job.
Well have now listened to all your itunes episodes and i have to say i'm really enjoying them. Now as you know Rick i'm not religious at all but that did not hinder my enjoyment of this show. I do have a spiritual belief but i'm not going into that here, i love your warm, passionate delivery and i feel very content and happy after listening to each episode. You've drawn me into a fabulous podcast and i look forward to each new show. One thing you asked what a hedgerow is regarding led zep. Well in the UK it means a row of course bushes that seperate fields from each other and roads. So a bustle in the hedgerow is a noise in your bush i guess ha ha. Anyway brilliant, enlightening show. Will drop you a positive comment on itunes tonight.

You learn something new everyday. ;) Bustle in The Hedgerow...I think that could be a band name.
Yeah, that is cool. I have heard a few bustles in my time. Especially when Hoshi, Miles or Stripey are hunting in our hedges. :)
and thanks for the nice comments.. and the itunes review. I don't see the one's in Canada or England, so if you could get me a screen shot of the UK version, that would be... well very bustley of you.
I really liked the song on the sneaking to church episode. I played it for my cousin and uncle on the way to friday the 13th the other night. They also thought it was really good stuff.
Thanks Alan. I have a few more cool songs from the band I was in. I'll be playing them soon.
Loving the show Rick. :)
Thanks Bryan, I have some cool stuff coming up. I've been working on the newsletter all day. It's going to kick! WOW!
Still loving the podcast every week Rick. It's a great mix especially with the music in there.
Keep it up!
cool, I am so glad you like it. It is a lot of work, but I love to encourage people!
WOAH!! I will subscribe right now. I will listen to it tonight while flying to another city.
I bet it rocks.
Been listening here too (in case you wondered). You carry a solo cast very well and say a lot of stuff I agree with.
I don't think I've put a review up yet though. Must rectify that next time I'm on the PC!
Thank you so much. I am going to try and get some guests coming up to break part of it up. I like sharing my story, but there are so many others that have one too!
Lookig forward to the next podcast Rick, great job. I update my ipod every Sunday evening so will through you a review up on itunes then.
Thank you so much Meds!
The new cast is up.... this week...
Ouija Boards and Sunday School.

Looks like a good lunch Rick. Great podcast this week, really enjoyed it and got a lot out of it.
It looks good...but. I loved your comments in the most recent podcast about health. Chinese food like this is NEVER a healthy option. Too much sodium and preservatives and sugar in the sauce.

It really depends on how it's prepared. Some is much better than others. Plus it's all relative. If the choice for some people is a quick stop for a Whooper or Chinese, I'd tell them to go Chinese every time.

Neither is a good choice or the only choice. How about some fruit or just fresh veggies? Why does "lunch" have to be a calorie festival! :) Eat small meals every few hours, during the day, much better for you and it ramps up your metabolism, burning even more calories. The concept of a big lunch is bad. Have a good breakfast, a number of small meals/snacks during the day, and a healthy dinner. Lunch is the health bane of America. Folks eat too much and then sit around all afternoon.
Hey Rick,
I've emailed you a screenshot of UK iTunes so you can see your reviews.
Thank you so much! They were very cool. I really appreciate it!
Dude - just listened to your latest podcast (while sending resumes out - I multi-task well). Great show! Thanks also for the nice things you had to say about the forum here and Treks in Sci-Fi. I'm running over to iTunes right now to put up a review for you. You rock!

A little late to the game (Sorry Rick) on this one but I finally downloaded an episode of your podcast (the latest one) and WOW! What a fantastic way too spend an hour. Your podcast is interesting, funny and best of all, absolutely uplifting! You have definitely moved into the elite "Joe's top 3 podcasts I look forward too" ;D (along with Rico and Jen & Ang)
Great job and keep up the great work.
Thanks Darth, that means a lot to me! I needed the encouragement tonight! The one coming up just rocks! Very funny, the Rick's house segment!
Rick I really love the podcast. Last time I was back home from college my mother had found out what podcasts were and was insisting that I find one that was aiding to my faith, and I did try (obviously I'm not much of a rebel), but I didn't find any that were good enough to keep my interest. But yours is great, I love it and it really does get me to think about my faith. So I just want to say thanks Rick for the wonderful podcast. I think I'll tell my youth pastors back home about it, I know one of them would probably really like it, being a musician himself and a bit of a geek too.
Needless to say I love the show and keep it coming.
Great new podcast Ric, it was so fun hearing you talk about taking the kids to that gig and i love your emotion. Brilliant mate, just brilliant.
you guys make me blush! hehe. Seriously though. Thanks so much!
Great show, Rick, just left an iTunes review. :)
Thank you Bryan!

I'm loving this story Rick. It's nice to get a glimpse into what make you 'you'.
Thanks again!
Dave and I started your latest episode this morning on our way to work. I paused it after you were talking about how crazy Hoshi was. He had to get out of the car, because we arrived at his work. We plan to resume after I pick him up. ;)
she is crazy! But at other times loving. Go figure! Like I said on the cast, I think she had too many kittens!
My cat, Lucy, must be Hoshi's sister... I think it's just a girl cat thing. Everyone that I've had has been a little on the wacko side. All except my favorite cat of all time, "Audrey"....she was brilliant and very sane. She would do the exact same thing Stripy is doing to Nathan when he plays the flute. She'd come to me when I sang. It was weird...she would just listen...she wouldn't yowl or anything. Weirdest thing. She also liked to watch me paint.

She was a cat artist. A kindred soul. :)
I'll give it the old college try. Keep those song parodies coming!
wow, it was a busy week! I got a parody done for TSF, one for the Ready Room 50th and the new Take Him With You Podcast
here is the latest, called Using and Abusing. It's a little more serious, but I do talk about Lost, Heroes, and 24, plus the new Food Network show Choppped.

Excellent message this week Rick, really meaningful and insightful. The concept of narcissism and people who engage in very selfish activities and habits is one I struggle with. Being an only child and being a bit OCD, I can be...difficult to live with. I know this about myself and I struggle with it a lot.

Thanks Bryan. I had a boss that was over the edge with this stuff, and after learning a lot about it, I found that at times I suffered from it. I was the baby of the family, and still can be selfish. Honestly, if it wasn't for my faith I probably would be a much different person. But thanks so much for the encouragement. I get some feeback, but as many of you that do podcasts know, never enough! :) I just love doing the show. It is very fulfilling.

I have to say, it is awesome though. To hear in my head what I want, and then create it so that people can hear.. hmmmm.

This week I talk about downloading the Trek Comic prequels, as well as comments from our very own Meds, and an email from Kinglinksr. Some fun stuff all the way around, an then THE AUDIO DRAMA!
Already downloaded and ready to go!
I'm interested to hear your take on the comics - didn't talk on that in yesterdays TSF Skype call - but the Audio Drama will be neat. I can't wait to hear your take on it all.
The other thing I forgot, (it was late) to say was how inspired I was from Jen- she not only has a part in the audio drama, but I was intrigued by her amazing work on the RPG drama. AWESOME STUFF! SO thank you Jen for all of your inspiration, and for letting me throw things our way for suggestions and ideas. You rock!
Looking forward to the audio drama Rick! The promo sounded great.
The whole thing comes across very well. I'm placing bets on how the whole thing happened...but I'm not going to say what happened for those that haven't listened yet.
I may have to create an audio comment before next week.

Moving and my travels have caused me to fall behind in my podcast rotation a bit. Just listened to Beaten to a Pulp part 2.
Wow! I am truly impressed. Like Mike said, I was brought up with the story but hearing it this way is a lot more compelling. Very well done Rick and everyone else involved.

Thanks so much Joe. It was a ton of work, but that is exactly what my goal was, to bring a new sense of urgency to a timeless story. Of course I had to add some science fiction elements, and make kickin fun music for the soundtrack.. :) But other than that, the story I hope captivates and maybe even educates people on a very important event.
Thanks for listening. How encouraging.

Rick, just a comment, I really like your episode "album covers", it's a cool idea and you don't see it being done all that much. At least not with the name of the ep and everything on it.
Thanks Joe. I love doing that. The latest was some tums from the cupboard on our bathroom sink... ah gotta love the Canon Rebel XTi. It makes for some fun "album covers" I have always thought a strong visual compels folks to take a listen.
:) THanks for noticing!

Yay more Take him with you. Going to be my MOnday pick me up. yay.
Already listened :)
It's an interesting topic. I'm looking forward to the follow up part.
yeah, kind of tough topic, but really important to talk about! Thanks for listening!
Absolutely tough - if there were an arguement, I could come down on both sides of it at the same time from my experiences :)
Great Podcast, very interesting to hear Jen and her Husband Dave speak about some things in their lives. Great job all, looking forward to part 2.
Ok, well wow. I've had a morning of take him with you and as usual i always feel a little bit more perky after every show. I loved the interview with Jeff, great stuff both of you it was so much fun to hear about your life Jeff, great interview Rick. Just heard Jen and Davids interview and wow so interesting. I can't wait for part 2. It's interesting because i'm not religious, i've read the bible, i've studied religion & i have my reasons but i find it so absorbing to hear about Ricks beliefs and today Jen and Daves. Great shows and it was so cool to hear Dave speak. Well done Rick, Jeff, Jen, Amy & David. Hey you'll have to interview me Rick ha ha.
I've talked a lot about my faith in the past to many different people...I don't know why it made me so nervous to discuss this with our pal Rick, but it did. I'm glad I talked about it though. I guess I was worried that we were going to sound like complainers and that our experience would turn some people off. I hope it hasn't. I
I guess what I learned from my church experience, and I'm not sure if I communicated that well, is that not all churches are the same. They have personalities just like people do and sometimes people change. Sometimes the change is good...sometimes it's not.
Church is an important part of Christianity, but it's not what it's all about. Believing in God (what I keep referring to as 'faith') is more than Church. Believing in God means you have a willingness to take to heart what Jesus taught about God, life, people and how to treat each other. And it's not something you do on certain days (like Sunday mornings). Church makes that connection easier to maintain and it strengthens you when you start to feel like your straying, but it shouldn't come before God. People shouldn't be there to be entertained, gain power or respect from others. I guess that's what I learned from my experience..
Anyway, I know Dave was nervous too. What's funny is that I'm typically the shy one. Talking online and on a podcast is way different than talking face to face to a bunch of strangers. Dave on the other hand is an extrovert and it was interesting to me to see how uncomfortable he was in front of the mic. But he wanted to talk. I was proud of him and I'm glad you found the episode interesting. I was worried that we would be boring. LOL. :)
Thanks Rick for inviting us on. I also enjoyed your interview with Jeff. It was interesting to hear of his experiences as well. :)
Jen, I found your comments very insightful and really enjoyed hearing you and Dave discuss your experience. You all did a great job discussing both your faith and the issue's of modern Christianity. These are issue's I have discussed with my family as well. My family are Anglican's and are fairly consistent church goers. Wasn't the case when i was a kid, but they do go know. My Mom converted from Dutch reform to Catholic and goes to Mass every week. Anglican can be a bit hevy on the scripture and ritual, kind of like Roman Catholic light, and I have often discussed the inability of the Anglican church to be more inclusive and flexible in an effort to reach out to more people to spread the Word of God. I have also witnessed some very un-Christian behavior from them. Jamie and I often talk about bringing God into our lives, but have yet to really make the commitment.
Rick, I promise I will send comments for your show soon, I really value it. I think it would also be interesting for you to interview people of other faiths and lifestyles which may not always be considered "traditional".
Cool Bryan. I am planning some of that soon. :) Great minds! :)
Jen you're interview was so not boring so don't worry about that. I found it incredibly insightfull, the same with Jeff's. As i say coming from a non religious person i always find listeneing to other people faiths and views very insightfull. If i'm honest i don't believe in church (as in a building) I never have. From my point of view i think if you believe and have a faith and it is important to you then that should be enough. Take him with you as a wise man once said. So looking forward to part 2. You both compliment each other so well, i hope me and natalie sound so close when we've been married as long as you have. :-)

I agree. You put a whole lot across in ways I'd certainly not heard before. It was interesting and informative...and in one ear since an ear-bud went kaput half way through :D
Oddly, your podcast is helping me to understand my childhood religious teachings as a Jehovah's Witness. As I stated before, I'm not sure of my current religious beliefs, but it's nice to understand what people have already tried to teach me!
Thanks you guys. It is my honor and a lot of fun to try and talk about my faith while making it relevant and entertaining! :) I scrapped what I was going to talk about this coming week and am just about done recording all about Creativity. WOW, it's coming out killer! I'm very happy, even do some on the spot recording of music and talk about unleashing our creative insides!

Another great show, Rick! I don't have any creative talents per se, but I do have a God given gift. My body. He has given me a talent and I am so grateful to Him that I discovered it and that my success in athletics has inspired many of those around me and online. :)
Good show Rick. Just read my comments when you're not in public.
I'm still listening over here, but the whole creative discussion is a very interesting one.
I'm not really sure how to respond to it, personally. You continue to be a challenge, Mr Moyer :)

Brilliant work everyone :)
I finally caught up to one of my favorite podcasts, so here are my comments:
Jen as the Angel was creepily "accurate". You did a great job Jen and really sold me on it.
Tim was really good as Marley and the rest were really great. You all did a great job bringing this thing to audio life.
Your podcasts are great as always, I will finally be able to make weekly comments since I've caught up. Took a while, but now I have and hope to keep it that way.

P.S. Song was quirky for me, but made me laugh. :)

Just catching up on some shows, the cheating one was great! Love the video above!
Thanks Bryan!
Just finished last weeks! I've listened to a lot of other podcasts over the past couple of weeks (working through the BSG casts) so that's thrown off my normal schedule.
I too thought the cheating show was really interesting - a new angle on a number of topics.
The last two shows were some of the best yet. Amy really completes things.
Thanks Mike and Joe, and everyone else who is still listening. Amy and really enjoy communicating and we have found a new depth to the show working together. :) Getting ready to record today for next week.
I agree with Brother Billybob - and I enjoy the interaction between you and Sister Amy. :)
LOVED the Fight Night episode, very insightful discussion. And yes, I LOVE Amy on the show, her sensitivity to harsh language is so cute and endearing. :wub You two really make the podcast come alive. :biggrin
Thanks Brompt and Bryan. The next one is a lot of fun too!
Daylight Savings Time and Tess the Wonder Dog (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSPl-ENor6Y#)
Well i love THWY, its the first podcast i listen to on a Monday morning. Rick, you and Amy just rock and i love the natural chemistry you both have. Its one thing to have that chemistry behind closed doors but to be able to forward that out through two microphones is awesome.
One question. Is it cold in your house ;)
Dear HawkeyeMeds,
Thank you for compliment about our podcast. I am glad that you like it. We enjoy doing it.
Recently Rick and I spent a whole day recording a training video for my job. I tell you that I enjoy doing the THWY podcast much more!
To answer your question, "Is your house cold?" It depends who you ask. I am often cold even in the summer. Rick likes the door open in winter, even during freezing temperatures. I like it to be at least 70 degrees in the house. Rick likes it cool. He works most of the time in what was our old garage. It is cooler in there. I do my data entry job in the room with our heater in it. We make it work. I'm cold a lot but that is just me. Most everyone else is fine.
Thanks again for your kind remarks.
Blessings,
Amy
Hey its Amy, awesomeeeee :D The reason why i asked was because Rick is always wearing his hat lol
cause I don't want to comb my hair. :)
I :wub Amy.
It's all new and more fun than a monkey on a water slide.

Wow, I just caught up with Episode 50. That song "Take me Higher"...Rick that was beautiful and amazing.
It was one of the hardest nights I have ever had. Resigned my position at the church and was very sad for the politics that had taken place. Then, I wrote the song because I needed to be strong in my faith. Stayed up till 1 or 2 in the morning recording it. I've played it many times on my ipod to get through the rough patches of change. The best songs come out of times of pressure. :) THanks Bryan, you are very encouraging.

You encourage me every week. I try to be so much better than I am and you help show me the way. :)

Join us for this new series- What turns your crank?
Awesome title, looking forward to this episode. :)
Loved the show and looking forward to this discussion with great anticipation. I have been pondering all afternoon what kind of "love" I need in my love cup. :ohbaby Just kidding!
Actually I really want to be better able at figuring out what others need as I tend to forget that I share this planet from time to time. ::)
we had a great time recording the next podcast. It was very revealing for me, and the rest of them are going to rock. In the meantime if you want to take the test Bryan.. go here: http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/ (http://www.5lovelanguages.com/assessments/)

Then we talk all about communicating more effectivley. It's Sticks and Stones and words of Affirmation. All about the 1st love language from the 5 love language book by Gary Chapman. Good stuff this next time on THWY.
I just had a great talk with Jamie about the "Language of Love" podcast and told her the thing I am going to do to make her feel more loved. Thank you so much Rick for bringing this to my attention. It made us both very happy to have an understanding of what feeling loved means to us and how we receive it. She's attention and gifts. I'm the chore one! LOL! I told her I feel loved when she does laundry instead of me! LOL! I'm also an "Unconditional" love person. I need to be love without "buts ifs". I also told her your TNG story from this week (I just started listening while walking the dogs) and she laughed because that is SO us! Although she does love "Firefly". :)
The new one is up!

Really enjoying this series. Fran and I have a 5 hour drive ahead of us this coming weekend so we're going to download the book from iTunes and listen on the road.
you will dig the book, it's great.
We were doing a class in church on a similar book - Love Talk. You and your gf/wife take the test and it will show where you are most compatible. The test is free if you buy the book.
That is cool. Amy and I are taking the 5 different ideas behind how people receive love one at a time on the show. People are seeming to dig it. The test is free online to find out what turns your crank. http://www.5lovelanguages.com (http://www.5lovelanguages.com) it was pretty dang accurate with both of us!
I prefer "what floats your boat" to "what turns your crank" :)
so does my wife. But I was thinking of the old cars and the new fangled crank flashlights and radios. How do we get energy... that type of thing. :)
Hi there- I'm the co-host of Take Him with you. I let Rick push all the buttons and knobs. Geeks like that sort of thing. I just talk. Not that I'm not a little bit geeky. I loved reading biographies for fun as a kid and loved art and history. I'm more of a bookie geek but work full time on computers so what is that saying. I'm married to a full blown trekkie and I know way more about Star Trek that one would think humanly possible.

Great show, par usual Rick. Sorry I didn't get my favorite movie(s) to you, I'm not much for Twitter, Facebook, and stuff like that. Guess I should but I'm not much for socialization :) Anyway, if anyone is interested, my favorite movies are, and in no particular order:
Somewhere In Time (an often overlooked Sci-Fi romance)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Napoleon Dynamite (for that completely nonsensical humor)
Rocky Balboa (I can relate!)
Star Wars
Star Trek II
Thanks Al. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I love those movies you mentioned. GREAT STUFF!
Listening today! For me, if I had to pick just one, it would be the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They have it all, heroism, good vs. evil, action, love, spectacle, nobility, people I wish I was more like, all the things that make for great entertainment.

:) Bryan...that's 3:)
I always look at them as one film. :)
I'm just bustin' your chops dude. You're right though, they are all one linear story. A great one at that!
I know. :) If I had to pick JUST one film? STAR WARS. No "A New Hope", just like I saw it 9 times in the summer of 1977 when I was 8 years old. Nothing makes me feel the same. :)
Here you go, this is really a cool episode, Amy was so fun to talk with on this subject.

Lyrics to "If could Ask"
by Rick Moyer
copyright 2010 Moyer Multi Media LLC.
I've been there many times
the scene unfolds before
where I ecnounter someone
that I'd rather just ignore
Oh the beggar on the street
or the orphans on tv
The mother on welfare
that does drugs instead of eat
So different than I am
So hard to understand
why they would make the choices
That take them where they land
Is that their lot in life
or or can't I just see straight
so quickly I dismiss them
blinded by all of the hate
And I try, I try, I try to understand
Chorus:
Who am I to treat them bad
if my life's an open book
If all they see is hatred
in the way I act and look
Maybe puttin down that picket sign
and wearin Jesus like a mask
I could show compassion
and if they need help I could ask.
Maybe getting our hands dirty
and finding where to start
Perhaps we wouldn't be so quick
to judge them in our heart
For the boat we find them in
is the boat we are in too
What seperates us is only
What we choose to pull us through
Pointing all the fingers
never gets us anywhere
Loving one another
Shows we really care
For I have made some stupid choices
for which I am not proud
I am just better at hiding them
and not shouting them outloud.
And I try, I try, I try to understand

Excellent, looking forward to some more uplifting fun from the Moyers.
Already listened - I'm ahead on my podcasts this week. I think it's an interesting topic and one that always provokes interesting reactions in the sense that most people seem to Valle themselves on some level for having been deceived. I'm sure there's anything 'to do' about that but it seems to me that people can make the outcome of such a situation so much worse for themselves by their own reaction to it. (Not deliberately, of course.)
Agreed Mike. Very interesting subject, and how I have dealt with it has determined a lot of what my future held after it. Sometimes I did well, other times I did not. None of are immune, so I do get tired of people pointing fingers, until they have it happen to them. Then I try and be nice and understand.
"We won't be fooled again!"

This should be interesting, but probably not or the obvious reasons. Over here I think November is part of the biggest block of non-holidays that we have so this whole 'holiday season' is one of the areas where we really differ from you guys in the US.
For me, the next set of 'holidays' begins on Deember 24th.
(This goes back to Rico's comment of a few months ago. We call a 'vacation' a 'holiday' but we don't call the 'holidays' anything because we don't have them.)
Our Thanksgiving Special is out! And thanks to all of you who sent a comment in. I REALLY appreciate it!

Terrific episode Rick. Honestly. Thanks for the great podcasts and constant encouragement brother. It's truly appreciated.
I am so glad someone enjoys the podcast. We keep going, the numbers on the stats go up, but the feedback stays realitvley the same, but that is normal! :) I am really blessed to know that people like it. I know Amy and I have so much fun doing it. Wait till next weeks on the 13th, HILARIOUS! Great topic and Amy was in good form on this one. You will LOVE it. Plus I play some Beatles music. That is always fun.
Great episode Rick, i have that same problem. My stats go up or hover happily but i dont get an awful lot of feedback. Several emails etc lol
The upside is that no one dislikes your shows, then you'd get some feedback...and not the good kind. :)
King
I only have one half of your problem: no feedback! Our stats haven't gone up as of yet...although, I really don't know how to track that short of going through a feedburner or something. I'm using Dreamhost.com now for Tales...wonder if there's someway to find out how many downloads the show is getting? Anyway, back on topic: I love Take Him With You Rick...it honestly makes a difference...Al
PS. I posted some feedback for you on iTunes...:)
thank you so much Al, Meds and Tim!

Finished listening to the recent episode this morning. Al and Joyce you guys are so awesome. Great to hear you guys on this weeks Take Him With You. I haven't listened to the Tales or FastFoward, cause I've got probably too many podcasts as it is and I've never been to Disneyland before or watched The Amazing Race, but I went and subscribed on iTunes to Just Because, and I don't want to make a pun out of it, but yeah... just cause. I look forward to listening to it later, I hope the iPad fund is progressing well.
I really enjoyed you and Amy's chat pre-show! I was laughing. As a financial advisor, I often here these kind of conversations between spouses regarding money. Couples are often funny how they allocate and perceive money and I always remind them that money is agnostic, it doesn't care what it's used for, it just is. We equivocate and justify it's use, be that for bills, trips, gadgets, ect. Amy is correct, money spent for one thing is money not spent for something else no matter what. What's important is that couples are on the same page. Your conversation was classic! :)
Yes it was, and news to me, she didn't prep me for that! ;) LOL! oh the fun of living on a tight budget. Funny thing is it changes over time, we have had a lot, and have had a little. They both have their benefits, even though I prefer the A LOT seasons. hahaha.
Rick...you and Amy rock. You just do. Thanks for ALL that you guys do, I for one, appreciate it more than I could every possible verbalize.
just finsihed listening to it, was a great epsisode, you and Amy make a great team.
Thanks you guys, very nice of you. I needed the encouragement. Amy is such a blessing in my life. Not sure what I would do without her.
Oh, and I got all but $10 of my ipad money today! WOOOO HOOOO! ;)
Now I have to travel 45 minutes to Olympia to pick it up.. if they have one..... hopefuly on Saturday or Sunday!
That's great!
Yes your conversion reminded me very much of the ones I have with my wife when it comes to money! Lol :)
As I said in my HeyTell to you I really am enjoying the Bootcamp series and I'm glad you haven't ruled out doing more after the next one. The nature of the questions and feedback you get I'm sure can take a whole show to answer and I think the Bootcamp format is ideal for that.
Looking forward to seeing you do creative things with the iPad! :)
Thanks Dan!
Have fun with the ipad, i am sure the weekend will whiz by as you play learn and download, think of all them free apps you will be getting.

Strangely, I'm still not really tempted. Not for the money they want, anyway. I guess if I didn't have the iPhone it might be a different story.
for those of you that have heard Camping's prediction of the end of the world this weekend, Amy and I put out a sample of what we talk about in the upcoming podcast. Enjoy
http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/whataboutthe21st.mp3 (http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/whataboutthe21st.mp3)
by the way, just so you know, I think people that resort to fear tactics and wild predictions smear the name of God. Just sayin. ;)
...or that people invoke the name of God to further their own ends.
Thanks Rick.
I've not invested any time reading about this crazy prediction so it will be interesting hearing about it.

Looking forward to listening on my commute tomorrow.

We play some great music this week and play some fun promos. Join us for an encouraging podcast about being flexible like elastic.
Rick, I loved the Alabama at the beginning and country music in general. Made me curious though if you'd heard Old Alabama by my favorite artist Brad Paisley?
Brad Paisley - Old Alabama (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDRfrVMrV6Q#ws)
It's a pretty entertaining music video too (but that's Brad Paisley for ya).
awesome Dan, thank you! That was so great!
Thought you might like that. BP is such an awesome guy and a real nerd too.
Great Cast mate, I see the iPad crept back in lol. It was nice to gear about Amys day out as well. I'm also glad that your friend is ok and that everyone is rallying round him until his church is rebuilt.
Listening right now and very much enjoying it as usual. You guys should do a show on wellness/fitness and spirtituality. I know I find a great deal of spiritiual peace when I am out in God's world, alone with my thoughts, and using the body He provided for me. It's a gift.
I agree wellness/fitness would be an awesome show topic.
Thanks guys. Great idea Bryan and Daniel. I LOVE THAT IDEA! We will put it on the list.
We will be asking for comments and or interviews from you both. :)
Comment of course and love to do an interview. I am such a fitness junky these days (though it is my job so I don't know if I qualify as an official fitness junky).
Great idea! I've had some good experience going from doing nothing to doing a lot :) I know Rick Peete is working on running as well.
I think a bunch of us have really gotten into fitness this past years. It's awesome to see.

Then we share our thoughts on the death of Apple founder Steve Jobs. We talk about innovation and dreams and what stops us from going for all life has to offer. We talk about what the Bible says about it all and how to position ourselves where we can go for our dreams. Practical and informative stuff this week. We end by praying for you and playing some cool songs that I recorded. ENJOY! Remember these two words METAL BABIES
Just finished listening to it in the car Rick, the wife thinks Amy has a similar patience level to her(regarding what they have to put up with lol). Looking forward to Dan next week now.
Enjoying listening to the new show. When you guys went over TV, mainly Terra Nova and said friends on Facebook didn't like it and you grazed over that. Well I don't mind stating my opinions at all. I was laughing through your talking anyway. And I still don't like it, but I do love your show.
Another note I'm not all the way through it, but Rick I think you over did the Metal Babies thing a little.
I agree Shep. I was so tired... and Metal Babies was a lot of fun at the moment... even I thought I overdid it! LOL! No problem on Terra Nova, I was gettinga kick out of it. Thanks Stonut for the kind words too.
It's nice to have awesome friends like you guys. Thank you!
Yeah, Joyce and I finished this episode this morning on the way to work. You guys...are FUNNY when you're tired! :) And uh, Metal Babies? Really? Sounds like a new Robocop series...(fill in the blank!) :)

It took a year of negotiations to get one so hang in there! ;)
My iPad negotiation consisted of me saying we would get one but that it'd be Fran's iPad, so technically I don't have one :)

Great podcast Rick. Great encouragement for me this morning. Just wanted to clarify though I'm actually recovering from a flare up in my GI. We will have to meet up some other time. And BodyAttack is actually aerobics, sport, conditioning and training. BodyCombat is the martial arts one, which I'm hoping to get my cert to teach next month.

Join us for a wonderful interview with our friends Bryan and Jamie Dunn as they talk about how they maintain their healthy lifestyle. There are some very practical tips for us all as we strive to live better this year. Also, music from Skillet and Gungor. Amy and I talk a bit about the crazy snowy weather we have been having. ENJOY!
Jamie and I both had a wonderful time being on Take Him With You!
Cannot WAIT to listen to this one!! :)
Just finished listening to the Brian and Jamie interview. It was great to hear about your lives and reasons for undertaking a healthful lifestyle. It was also great to hear from a couple who have similar goals, but go about them in their individual fashion. Very cool!
Actually, it was encouraging. The call to balanced, healthy living ignited a spark in me. Thank you guys so much. There was a time when I was in excellent shape and pretty much subscribed to the Annemarie Colbin whole foods playbook. Then, I went from 170 to around 200 pounds from getting out of the habit of exercising (and to some extent, the proper "food groups"). I've never been in such bad shape as I am now.
But, even at 54, I know that I can turn it around. As was pointed out in the podcast, it's a matter of taking this a step at a time, not all at once. So, even though a bunch of snow dropped here, I'm going to take the dog to the basement and we're going to take a "walk" (I'm house-sitting this week). Sometimes, getting into shape can seem daunting, but with the right encouragement, it's possible. I got that today. The key is to stay consistent with it.
Brian and Jamie, thanks for such an inspiring message. Rick and Amy, thanks for getting this to us.
Hey Phil, one day, one step, one good choice at a time, my man. :)

I know I said it on Facebook, but wonderful show. It helped me to look back at where I've come from in the past two years. Something I probably shouldn't forget is how small and weak I was when I started out. And now teaching a fitness class of my own and becoming a personal trainer because I want to help others into this life. And my own fitness journey definitely isn't over and I doubt it will ever be now that it's a lifestyle and a still developing lifestyle. Thanks so much for the awesome episode.

Darmok, I know people in their 70s who are turning it around. I know people older who workout on a regular basis. Fitness really is a journey and it has to start somewhere. I'm sure I'm right in saying you can always get encouragement from us here, especially those who love living a fitness lifestyle. And I know I can help guide you in areas as well. The main thing is it does take time and effort, but we all can do that, it just does take the right motivations. And that goes for anybody on the forums, if my personal training knowledge can help anybody I'm so happy to help.

Thanks!
Actually, it would be great to for me to have have a little accountability. Took a walk today. Couldn't find my Tae•Bo DVD (still living out of boxes), so I'll go on YouTube and workout with Gilad.
That's great. Maybe we need a fitness section on the forums ;) . Also if you are near a gym with group fitness programs like the Les Mills programs http://www.lesmills.com/westcoast/classes/find-a-class.aspx (http://www.lesmills.com/westcoast/classes/find-a-class.aspx) I highly recommend BodyCombat. I loved and did it for months long before I become an instructor in it myself so I can speak for it as both a participant and an instructor. There's also some other really great programs they offer that help people to get in shape with the support of the instructor teams and the regulars who attend. Great job though so far, you're off to a great start to and you sound driven to change your lifestyle and that's a very good sign.
Thanks, Dan. The fitness or a positive lifestyle section idea sounds great. I went for nearly an hour walk with a friend today. A couple of days ago, it was Darmok and Gilad on YouTube:
http://youtu.be/Kkdsewe7RrE (http://youtu.be/Kkdsewe7RrE)
Once I find my Tae-Bo DVD, I can mix it up a bit more. Sad that as soon as I got FIOS, they got rid of the free Fit TV section...punks!
Great thing is that fitness is such a big deal with the world today that we have so many options to fit our lifestyle. Just a matter of not getting overwhelmed or getting suckered into a situation where someone is using that desire to make a big profit. Sounds like you're doing good with it all. Mixing up the workouts is great, muscle confusion is what we call it. Keeps your body from getting into an easy routine. Though when first starting out it's really a matter of just doing it, making the time and the lifestyle change, that's the first and hardest obstacle.
Quite true, Dan. Starting is the hardest. It seems like the biggest effort comes psychologically-- breaking through pack of confidence and/or fear. Getting back into practicing an instrument is very similar, it's easy to procrastinate in the beginning.
Listened to this last one...while on my lunch time walk on Wednesday :)

Join us for a very practical and encouraging interview with our friend Rick Peete who has lost over 100 pounds in just a year! Rick is very inspiring.
Great episode. I love stories like that. Rick P, nice job as well. You really have come so far and I can't wait to see how much farther you will go in this continued fitness journey.
I'm a bit late to the party but in regards to the healthy living, I started walking after school between 3-4pm and now do it on an almost daily basis. Its pretty much a part of my daily routine and hope to move up to jogging/running. I also pretty much dropped deserts (granted, that is incredibly easy to do on a college budget :P) so doing one step at a time definitely works.
King
I lost SO much weight my first year in college. Of course it helped that all my classes were at the bottom of a mountain and I lived in the dorms at the top of the mountain. I was walking miles a day though, up steep hills, often running because I was always late. Best shape of my life, by far. I'd love to get there again physically.
GREAT interview with Rick! He really brought a great personal story to the more general overview that Jamie and I provided the week before.
Also loved Rick's interview (anyone ever notice how many Ricks there are on these forums?)
I know! Thanks guys for the great discussion! And for listening. It means a lot.

Thanks Bryan! I told Rick M. that I was taking notes while listening to your podcast. :) I hope that people find my story helpful in some way. Hey, any chance you are coming out to Chicago to run the Chicago Marathon this October? It would be fun if you were there too! Of course, you would finish way before me.... lol

Thanks! Just gotta keep moving forward. January was a busy month with my first two Half Marathons now in the books. Lots of cool potential for 2012 if I can stay motivated. :)
Hopefully I will be at the Ironman World Championships in October this year! i think you did a great job touching about various aspects of both nutrition but also training, especially in regards to pace and effort management. By the way, Stevia is awesome. It's from a leaf extract, 100% natural, and very potent sweetener. It can be found in powder form in the supplement section of a store, it's not FDA approved to be sold as a food thatnks to lobbying by the sugar and artificial sweetner companies to keep them off the grocery shelves. I use Stevia in my coffee, to sweeten non-fat plain greek yogurt, really anythwhere you would want to use sugar. I'm not sure if you can bake with it, though.
I'm not a huge fan of programs like Weight Watchers but you clearly had a lot of success with them and I think it's very individual dependent as to how succesful those programs are.

Where is the Ironman World Championship this year? TSF should follow you if they offer triathlete tracking! Keep informed about the event. My trainer/coach did the Madison Ironman last fall in 13 hours. Just amazing!
Weight Watchers is a good program, especially in its current form. But I agree that a program is only as good as the person's commitment to following it. From a health perspective, it teaches the right way to eat, focusing on life changes and not the 'D' word. I use it mostly for the accountability and support aspects and I think it works well in conjunction with the advice and guidance from my registered dietician.
Kona, Hawaii and they do a great coverage online. You can always track me at these races. :) Oh, instead of Balsamic Vinegrette, always ask if they have just blain balsamic and some olive oil, even better for you.
You guys make me want to try running a marathon myself. How hard could it be for a BodyAttack Instructor? I'm in such better shape than I was when I did cross country in high school. Just didn't have the motivation then, now I've got that motivation and desire to be stronger.
Go for it! You'll need to work out a training plan to build up your endurance and put in the "foot time". You have plenty of time to prepare for a fall marathon race. You should sign up for a 5K or 10K race and see how you like it. Get some good running shoes from a running store where they can do a gait analysis to fit you with the right type of shoes.
You'll have a much easier time training if you have a good base level of fitness but you definitely still do need to put in some mileage. Like with anything, at first your body won't be used to it. Distance running is much different from the high-intensity stuff you do, if anything your challenge will be to keep your pace down on your training runs so as not to burn yourself out.
Give it a go! I may be signing up for another half myself a bit later on in the year.

Yeah, but it's a totally different kind of fitness. Run specific fitness has very little to do with say explosive strength fitness. They are in fact complete opposites. A marathon requires building p a base of run fitness which takes time to do safely to avoid injury. But as disciplined as you are I'm sure you could easily do it if you take the time to do it correctly. You certainly have the right kind of bay composition to be a good runner, your small and lean.
I don't spend enough time just running, but when I do I notice it's not that challenging to me. I did 5k in Cross Country races and more then 10k for practices then. But I'm in way better shape now than I was then. I've gone out and run 8 miles easy before, a few months ago it was. Though I don't run a lot anymore I do notice a high fitness level for it when I do get out there. Though I admit I'm sure there is a difference between that and running 26 miles, though I think given a little more actual running and training I think I'd actually be up for it. A lot of me would just like to take on that challenge.
BodyAttack is great, and it does work well for runners, and works explosive and endurance actually because we are on our feet with the pace through most of it, only stopping in track 5 to do upperbody conditioning (AKA our active recovery) and then it's back on the cardio. We work on raising the heart rate from track 1 to 4 and then again from 6 to finish in 9 at the highest peak.
We've got a great store for running shoes around here, and I have a good pair of running shoes, but I don't plan to have them ever touch the outside ground, they are specifically BodyAttack and BodyStep shoes, and occasionally BodyCombat shoes. Running shoes are a bit pricy, I'll say I bought my first real pair of running shoes this year and the most I've ever spent on shoes, and I got them pretty cheap all in all.
I have purchased my running shoes from RunningWarehouse.com which has some really good prices for shoes. So once you know which shoe you wish to purchase, check out that site before buying them at the running store. (make sure you know the model number!). That way, you might save yourself some money.
Another big part of the training time is getting your body used to the pounding on your feet and joints. And, to help you figure out what your 'fueling plan' will be as your run. What works for you, what doesn't. And there is the mental aspect of 26.2 which sometimes worries me more than the physical demands.
A marathon is a funny race. The first half feels easy as pie. Miles 13-18 begin to be a bit of a struggle. 18-20 suddenly you REALLY start to feel bad. The last 10K is a form of suffering difficult to describe. That's the race, the last 10K, 6.2 lousy miles will never seem so overwhelming. In my experience no race hurts more than running a marathon as fast as you can and I include the Ironman in that. The Ironman marathon just feels very different from a stand alone marathon because the pace is slower. I have never hurt do much in my life as the last 4 miles of the Boston Marathon in 2008 as I held on to finish in 2:58. It was surreal how deep I was in the pain cave trying to hold onto a sub 3 hour pace.
It sounds like an awesome challenge. I do really want to do a marathon. Sounds like my kind of endeavors, pushing me to the limits of my capabilities.
Another thing a bunch of us from the gym have talked about is doing a Warrior Dash or something like it. You ever done something like that Bryan?
I'm really on the late freight here. Just finished listening to Rick Peete's interview — wonderful! You da miggety-miggety man!
Rick, you've achieved so much and what's cool is that it's opened up a whole new ministry as well. Really cool that you've brought the Lord into it as well, looking to Him for strength, getting close to him and giving Him the glory for your victory.
By the way, I have to stay away from Entenman's rich frosted chocolate doughnuts. There were times when I'd eat practically the whole box in one sitting. What has helped is that they've downgraded the quality of that particular flavor of doughnuts. :-)
Congratulations on your very impressive victory. Wonderful to see another inspiring person. All the best as you reach for the goal of losing another fifty pounds.

I long to play for you
http://www.takehimwithyou.com/songs/ilongtoplayforyou.mp3 (http://www.takehimwithyou.com/songs/ilongtoplayforyou.mp3)
by Rick Moyer
vs 1
Like a song that floats on air
Your grace is like that breeze
That carries seeds of life about
Opens my soul to breath
A wonder that you saved my life
Not worthy yet you care
My life so full of un sung rhymes
You write like you were there
Chorus:
The words inside me, oh so deep
your song it makes me whole
You played your part a note so true
Your melody saved my soul
And now my heart it aches for real
I'm in your chorus true
Jesus who rose again
I long to play for you
vs 2
A master of your instrument
The tune of life it flows
A sacrifice for all that live
A song from death arose
So brilliant are your harmonies
So haunting in their sound
When all was silent you conquered death
Our song so lost now found
Play the song I long to play for you by Rick Moyer
Way to go, Rick! It's clear that you really love the Lord.

Nightmare for her and her folks.
I'm just super glad she is ok.
I haven't listened to the cast yet, but can you say if they nabbed the guy?
The lady that owned the car for only three days claims it was stolen. But her boyfriend resembles the driver and awful lot. Hmmmm.
Has anyone found the car? If it was stolen I assume she hasn't got it any more?
I have a bridge to sell you if you believe that chestnut... ;)
