Ok Rico, but what do you think? You should try it.  It would be great to have pics for the RPG on this web page.

Ok if anyone else tries out Maya, tell me what u think.  I like feedback.  I will also be posting the stuff i make.  I'm gonna be starting out fairly simple before I start the big time with the starships.  I would really like to make my own Pillar of Autumn.  That would be pretty awesome.  I would of course make the classic enterprise ships too.  Once again, the sky's the limit. :)

I've drawn my line in the sand on the side of motion graphics and video:

After Effects, Photoshop, Final Cut Pro and Fash are my best friends these days. I'm more of an instant gratification guy. Also, I need the time to direct what's going on. On some level, I will have to stick my toe into the 3D waters, but only to do simple stuff. I can always farm out work to more specialized hands (the guy who did the door in the Maxipime animation created it in Maya). I've downloaded Blender because it's open source, which means free. For what I need, I can start with this. I've heard that it's a decent application and I don't have to worry about what I use it for.

For those of you who'd like to invest the time, go to http://www.blender.org.

I actually got into Bryce when it first came out. Using it and trying Strata, that's when I realized how much of a huge time investment 3D was going to be. After Effects has a somewhat 3D component to it in that you can create 3D layers. It's actually 2.5D unless you import a 3D object. I mention this for those who might be interested in such things.

There's a great site to see some cool motion graphics companies:
