Born as Susan Alexandra Weaver in New York, Sigourney Weaver later changed her name based on a character in “The Great Gatsby.”  She moved around a lot growing up and eventually began acting.  Sigourney is most known for playing the strong female character of Ripley in the “Alien” film series.  She probably started a trend of strong, female characters in Sci-Fi films.  She has been in many other genre films such as: “Ghostbusters”, “Galaxy Quest”, “The Village” and others.  She continues to steadily act will be seen in James Cameron’s Sci-Fi epic, “Avatar.”  This lovely lady really paved the way for women in Sci-Fi entertainment.
